Singer and Presidential Advisor on Ghetto Affairs, Mark Bugembe, popularly known as Buchaman, has voiced his frustration over being repeatedly blocked from meeting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, despite the unfulfilled promises made to the ghetto youths.
In an interview with Sanyuka TV, Buchaman revealed that it has been a long time since he last met with the President, attributing this to the interference of individuals surrounding Museveni. According to the singer, this has led to significant frustration, especially as the promises made to the ghetto community remain unmet.
“We are often blocked, but if Mzee [President Museveni] wanted to see me, all it would take is a phone call. I’ve gone a long time without meeting him, but if he wanted anything, he would simply call me,” Buchaman explained, highlighting his belief that the President is being kept out of reach.
Buchaman also addressed a previous public statement where he threatened to leave the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and join his former mentor, Bobi Wine, in the National Unity Platform (NUP). He clarified that his statement was meant to draw attention to the growing frustration among the ghetto youths who were demanding the fulfillment of promises made by the President during the election campaigns.
“There was a lot of pressure from the public. People had demands for things that Mzee promised during the campaigns, so I was only letting them know that I had not been given anything,” Buchaman noted. His outspokenness seemingly prompted action, as he mentioned that after his remarks, the President called the ghetto youths to Kololo and provided them with UGX 1.2 billion.
Buchaman’s concerns reflect the ongoing challenges faced by the ghetto community, as well as the difficulties in maintaining communication and fulfilling campaign promises within the current political structure.
