Uganda’s Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has called on global leaders to prioritize youth voices in leadership, stressing that young people must be given a seat at the table where decisions are made.

Speaking during the High-Level Plenary on the 30th Anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY) at the United Nations, Barugahara emphasized that youth inclusion should not be symbolic — it must be visible, structured, and impactful.

“Going forward, we need to see more investment and focus on strengthening youth structures to ensure effective, meaningful participation at all levels,” he told delegates.

Harjit Kaur, a 73-year-old grandmother and long-time resident of California, was deported to India on 22 September after living in the United States for over three decades. Her arrest by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on 8 September shocked the Sikh community and sparked widespread outrage.

Kaur originally moved to the US in 1991 with her two young sons, fleeing political turmoil in Punjab. During her time in California, she lived and worked legally while filing multiple unsuccessful asylum claims. Despite having no criminal record, her detention and subsequent deportation have been described as inhumane by her lawyer, Deepak Ahluwalia.

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has officially opened a new regional party office in Mbarara, surprising party members and bypassing prior notification to security agencies.

“We bought this land, started construction, and have unveiled the offices without security or even some of our members knowing,” Kyagulanyi said during the unveiling ceremony, highlighting the strategic nature of the move.
