KAMPALA, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Centenary Bank has extended its footprint in Uganda by opening a new branch in Buliisa district, western Uganda, marking the bank’s 81st branch in the country. This expansion is strategically aimed at catering to the burgeoning economic activities in the Bunyoro region, fueled by the thriving Oil and Gas sector.
Beatrice Lugalambi, General Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank, emphasized that the new branch aligns with the bank’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion across Uganda. “As a bank, it is our dream that every Ugandan has access to financial services at their convenience, and this is something we have been deliberate about,” Lugalambi stated. She added that the expansion of their branch network is a testament to their dedication to supporting the economic activities in various regions of the country.
The banking sector in Uganda currently serves fewer than 13 million people out of a population of over 45 million, according to the Uganda Bankers Association. However, innovative channels like agent banking have been instrumental in closing the gap in financial services access, especially in remote areas.
Samuel Bwete, the Branch Manager for Centenary Bank in Buliisa, expressed optimism that the new branch would unlock numerous opportunities for the local communities, enhancing their access to essential financial services.
This latest branch opening underscores Centenary Bank’s ongoing commitment to expanding its reach and fostering economic growth in underbanked regions of Uganda.
