Ugandan Dancehall singer Cindy Sanyu has defended her music video for the song “Full Package,” asserting that the fusion of different concepts from movies and music videos creates a fresh and innovative visual experience.
Critics within the entertainment industry have heavily criticized Cindy Sanyu, claiming that the “Full Package” video lacks originality and merely borrows ideas from various sources, including movies like “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “The Matrix,” and music videos such as Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.”
In an interview with The Truth Gossip, Cindy Sanyu addressed these criticisms by emphasizing that her approach to blending ideas from different sources was intended to create something unique and visually striking. She defended her creative choices, stating, “That is new, I don’t know why people think it’s not new. Nobody has done a video like that.”
Cindy acknowledged discussions with Sasha Vybz, presumably the director, about the potential perception of copying existing concepts. She mentioned initially rejecting the idea when it was proposed, mindful of how her fans and critics might perceive the video. Despite these concerns, she proceeded with the concept, confident that it offered a fresh take that hadn’t been explored before.
She further explained, “It took a lot of money and time to bring it out the way it is in the movie, especially the Wakanda shot and that’s what makes it a new idea because no one has done it.”
While Cindy Sanyu acknowledged the perspective of those who view her work as derivative, she remains steadfast in her belief that “Full Package” represents a new and innovative approach to music video production. She concluded by noting the challenges in conveying her creative vision to everyone, particularly those who may not immediately grasp her artistic angle.
Cindy Sanyu’s defense underscores her commitment to pushing creative boundaries in the music industry, despite facing scrutiny from critics who question the originality of her visual concepts.
