Renowned rapper Gravity Omutujju recently made headlines for an unusual reason: he proudly claimed to be the first musician to hold a press conference for his concert at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
Gravity Omutujju was originally scheduled to host the press conference for his ‘Embaga ya Isma N’amina’ concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval earlier today. However, the event took an unexpected turn when a crowd of fans, drawn by his promotional efforts around the city, caused a disturbance. The group began seizing phones and other valuables from bystanders, prompting police intervention.
The police instructed Gravity Omutujju to limit his entourage to ten people and to avoid using Kampala Road, as he had not obtained the necessary permissions for the route. Despite these directives, the rapper did not comply, leading to his arrest along with eight of his supporters.
During a press briefing, Deputy Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango clarified that no formal charges were filed against Gravity Omutujju. Instead, the police’s primary goal was to restore order and ensure public safety in the city.
“Gravity Omutujju and his team were detained to address the public disturbance and maintain peace. There were no charges filed; it was a matter of enforcing public order,” SP Onyango stated.
Following his brief detention, Gravity Omutujju recorded a statement and was subsequently released. In a twist, he decided to hold his press conference at the Central Police Station, instead of the originally planned venue at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
