Local rapper Gravity Omutujju is facing backlash for allegedly using the creative works of the late Paul Kafeero without proper authorization.
The controversy stems from accusations made by Schwarz Kafeero, Paul Kafeero’s son, who claims that Gravity Omutujju did not seek permission or compensate their family for using their father’s song “Walumbe Zaaya.”
Schwarz Kafeero’s ire towards Gravity Omutujju intensified after Gravity criticized Bobi Wine for his rendition of Paul Kafeero’s song “Dippo Nazzigala,” alleging that Bobi Wine did not do justice to the song.
However, Schwarz Kafeero swiftly defended Bobi Wine, stating that Bobi Wine had obtained permission and financially supported their family during their education.
Schwarz Kafeero expressed disappointment with Gravity Omutujju’s actions, highlighting the lack of humility and respect shown towards their father’s legacy.
Schwarz Kafeero recalled their initial encounter with Gravity Omutujju, where they perceived him as a struggling youth deserving of support. However, as Gravity gained fame, he allegedly neglected to honor their father’s legacy appropriately.
In contrast, Schwarz Kafeero praised Bobi Wine for his respectful approach, noting that Bobi Wine sought permission and compensated their family when redoing their father’s song.
As a result of these grievances, Schwarz Kafeero announced their decision to remove Gravity Omutujju’s version of “Walumbe Zaaya” from all social media platforms.
The controversy highlights the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and honoring the legacies of artists in the music industry.
