The Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Annual International Leadership Conference wrapped up on Friday after a two-day gathering that brought together global leaders to discuss the complexities of modern leadership. The event, themed “Leadership in Flux: Navigating Leadership Complexities for Inclusive Prosperity,” aimed to tackle both current and future leadership challenges in Africa.
Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia, officially opened the conference, stressing the vital role that effective leadership plays in achieving sustainable development across the continent. The conference also featured 40 PhD students from Somalia who shared their experiences and gained insights from other leaders present.
Throughout the event, participants explored the dynamic and ever-changing nature of leadership, recognizing the need for leaders to be adaptable and innovative in a world that is constantly evolving. The conference covered ten subthemes, including leadership’s role in social service delivery, climate change, and gender equality.
Keynote speakers and panelists highlighted the essential traits of leadership in flux, such as agility, resilience, and innovative thinking. They emphasized that strong leadership is crucial for attaining inclusive prosperity and sustainable development in Africa. Additionally, the conference provided a platform for discussions on the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous, secure, and united continent.
The conference concluded with the formulation of recommendations and action plans designed to enhance leadership effectiveness in Africa. These insights and strategies will be shared with stakeholders and implemented across various sectors to foster positive change and growth on the continent.
