Spyda MC is opening up about the less glamorous side of having a hit song.
The Ugandan singer says his breakthrough track, “Emikisa,” became a major hit on TikTok and mainstream media and dramatically expanded his public profile—but the success did not bring the financial rewards he had expected.
Speaking in an interview with Galaxy TV, Spyda MC said the song helped him gain visibility and position himself within the music industry, but the financial opportunities he hoped would follow never fully materialized.
“It widened my spaces to position myself, but I didn’t get enough money,” he said.
For an artist whose name remains strongly associated with one breakout record, Spyda MC’s story highlights the difference between becoming widely recognized and turning that recognition into substantial income.
“Emikisa” gave Spyda MC a level of exposure that changed how audiences viewed him.
The song gained popularity on TikTok and received attention through mainstream media, helping the singer reach a much wider audience.
But according to Spyda MC, the visibility did not translate into the financial success he had imagined.
“It widened my spaces to position myself, but I didn’t get enough money,” he told Galaxy TV.
The singer acknowledged that expectations can become difficult when the opportunities that follow a major breakthrough fail to arrive.
“Sometimes we have expectations, but if you don’t meet them, you become disappointed,” he said.
For Spyda MC, those expectations extended beyond music.

He had hoped the popularity of “Emikisa” would create opportunities in the corporate world and open additional doors outside his music career.
“I had hoped the song would bring me different opportunities in the corporate world and more, but I never got them,” he explained.
That gap between expectation and reality appears to be one of the biggest lessons he has taken from the song’s success.
The hit also created another challenge: being permanently associated with one particular record.
Spyda MC said many people still identify him primarily through “Emikisa.” According to the singer, some listeners are surprised when they discover that he has released other songs since the breakout hit.
That recognition has not necessarily translated into the same level of popularity for his newer material.
He explained that his subsequent songs have received airplay on radio and television but have struggled to achieve the same level of connection with listeners on the ground.
The contrast is significant. “Emikisa” established Spyda MC’s name, but reproducing that level of popularity has proved difficult.
Still, the singer does not appear ready to let the experience define the rest of his career.
Spyda MC’s breakthrough came through “Emikisa,” a song that gained significant visibility through TikTok and mainstream media.
The track helped introduce him to a broader audience and gave him greater recognition within Uganda’s entertainment scene.
However, Spyda MC says the success came with expectations that were not fulfilled financially.
He had anticipated that the song’s popularity would lead to corporate opportunities and other income-generating possibilities.
Instead, he says he did not make enough money from the breakthrough to match those expectations.
His comments also point to the complicated nature of maintaining a music career after a viral or breakout moment.
While “Emikisa” remains the song many people associate with him, Spyda MC says he has continued releasing music.
The newer material has reportedly received radio and television airplay, but he believes it has not achieved the same level of popularity with audiences.
Spyda MC’s experience highlights an important distinction in today’s music industry: visibility does not automatically equal wealth.
A song can dominate social media, attract mainstream attention and make an artist recognizable without necessarily generating the corporate deals, bookings or other financial opportunities the artist expects.
For Spyda MC, “Emikisa” clearly achieved the visibility side of that equation.
What did not follow, according to the singer, was enough financial reward.
His comments also illustrate the pressure that can come with a breakout hit. Once an artist becomes associated with a particular song, audiences may continue expecting the next release to replicate its success.
Spyda MC says he has experienced exactly that challenge.
Despite acknowledging his disappointment, Spyda MC says he is not interested in turning his situation into a public appeal for sympathy.
The singer said he refuses to allow the financial outcome of “Emikisa” to consume him and remains determined to continue working.
He also ruled out turning to online fundraising, saying he considers himself mentally strong enough to keep pushing forward.
That resilience is now part of his story.
“Emikisa” may not have delivered the financial future he imagined, but Spyda MC says the song still gave him something valuable: greater visibility and a platform from which to continue building.
Spyda MC says “Emikisa” changed his profile but fell short of the financial breakthrough he expected.
Now, with his newer music still competing for the same attention, the singer says he would rather keep pushing than let disappointment define his career.
