Crysto Panda is urging young people, particularly those pursuing careers in Uganda’s entertainment industry, to find additional sources of income instead of depending entirely on one stream of money.
Speaking on BBS Terefayina, the musician and media personality said the current economic environment requires people to work hard and diversify their income because multiple financial demands can quickly compete for the same earnings.
His message to fellow artists was straightforward: music should not necessarily be the only thing paying the bills.
“So every artist, find something on the side to do and stop waiting for the stage alone because in Uganda if you don’t have a hit, you get broke.”
Panda’s point was centered on the financial uncertainty that can come with relying solely on live performances. According to him, artists who do not have hit songs attracting regular bookings can find themselves struggling financially.
He also linked that pressure to wider challenges facing some young artists, saying financial difficulties have contributed to cases of drug abuse and depression among some entertainers.
For Panda, having another source of income is therefore more than simply making extra money. It is part of creating financial stability in an industry where earnings can fluctuate.
The musician also shared how he personally approaches money and lifestyle.
Panda said he has deliberately chosen to live within his means rather than dramatically changing his lifestyle whenever his finances improve. He explained that people may not immediately know when he has money because he does not feel the need to publicly display increased earnings.
“It is why I decided to live a life that’s real. Even when I have money, you won’t know because I’ll continue living like how I have been. I live within the means.”
His approach reflects the broader advice he gave artists: earn where possible, avoid depending entirely on unpredictable entertainment income and maintain financial discipline when the money does come in.
For young entertainers hoping to build sustainable careers, Panda’s message is clear — the stage can provide income, but it does not have to be the only source.
