The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has scheduled a National Prayer for Rain as prolonged dry conditions continue across the country, calling on Muslims to seek divine mercy and beneficial rainfall.
The prayers, known as Salatul-Istisqa, are scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, according to a circular issued and signed by Sheikh Ssali Imran Abdunoor from the UMSC Department of Religious Affairs.

The prayer will take place simultaneously at 1:40 p.m. in mosques across Uganda, making it a nationwide religious observance.
Local Muslim religious leaders have been tasked with mobilizing members of their communities to participate in the prayers and collectively seek divine intervention amid the prolonged dry conditions.
The UMSC is encouraging Muslims to approach the prayer through acts of worship and good deeds, including Istighfar, repentance, Dua, charity and other acts of righteousness.
“Muslims are encouraged to sincerely turn to Almighty Allah through Istighfar, repentance, Dua, charity and good deeds, seeking His mercy and beneficial rainfall for our country,” the circular states.
The call for the national prayer comes as communities contend with extended dry conditions, with the UMSC placing emphasis on seeking rainfall that will be beneficial to the country.
Salatul-Istisqa is specifically associated with seeking rain, giving Friday’s nationwide observance a clear focus: bringing Muslim communities together in prayer and supplication for relief from the dry conditions.
The announcement also places local religious leaders at the center of the mobilization effort, with mosques across the country expected to participate at the designated time.

For Ugandan Muslims, Friday’s prayers will therefore be more than a regular congregational gathering, as communities come together in a coordinated appeal for rain and divine mercy.
The UMSC’s message ultimately calls for both prayer and personal reflection, urging worshippers to combine their supplications with repentance, charity and good deeds as they seek beneficial rainfall for Uganda.
