Police detectives have searched the home of Vincent Arnold Nsamba, the prime suspect in the death of legendary Ugandan musician Moses Matovu, as investigations into the fatal attack continue.
The search was conducted on Friday, September 25, 2026, one day after Matovu, the longtime Afrigo Band icon, was allegedly attacked in the Kibuli area of Kampala District.
According to preliminary police findings, detectives recovered a jacket, shirt and trousers from Nsamba’s residence. Authorities said the items are believed to be the clothes Nsamba allegedly wore on Thursday, the day Matovu was attacked.
Police say Nsamba fled the scene shortly after the incident but was later arrested in a hideout in Ocheng Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, during a joint security operation.
According to investigators, Nsamba’s mother was initially arrested and assisted police in tracing his location before he was taken into custody.
Police Investigate Events Before Matovu’s Death
Preliminary investigations indicate that Matovu was attacked after he allegedly attempted to intervene during a confrontation involving Rose Tusiime, a woman Nsamba reportedly claimed was his girlfriend.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said Matovu had gone to Tusiime’s residence at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“It is alleged that as he left the rental in the company of the lady, they were confronted by a male suspect (Nsamba) reported to have an affair with the same lady,” Kawala said.
She added that early reports pointed to a possible physical confrontation but emphasized that detectives were still working to establish the exact circumstances that led to Matovu’s death.
Investigation Continues
Police have continued gathering evidence as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of one of Uganda’s most respected music figures.
Moses Matovu was widely recognized as a founding figure of Afrigo Band and one of the country’s most influential musicians, with a career spanning several decades.
Authorities have not yet released final findings from the investigation, and the case remains under active review as detectives continue examining evidence and witness accounts.
