Ugandan music producer Lule Henry Mayanja, better known as Mayanja on the Beat, is stepping further into the spotlight with a new six-track EP after building his reputation behind some of the country’s established artists.
Based in Uganda, Mayanja’s production journey began during his Senior Six vacation, when he spent time at his uncle Pallaso’s studio. Watching songs come together in the studio changed how he viewed music and sparked an interest in production.
“I got inspired and developed the love for the whole process. I believed I could do it too and the rest was history,” Mayanja recalls.
Unlike artists who transition into production after starting as performers, Mayanja says production was his first love. He began developing his identity by studying different genres, song structures and sounds while paying attention to the cultural influences behind the music.
His approach now draws from Afrobeats, melody, rhythm and emotion, allowing him to work across different styles while developing a recognizable production sound.
A major breakthrough came in 2025, when Mayanja produced Pallaso’s Bikyuka. The song gained traction on TikTok and streaming platforms, giving the producer a wider audience and helping create opportunities for additional collaborations.
Bikyuka was subsequently nominated for Best Inspirational Song at the 2025 Galaxy Zzina Awards, adding another milestone to Mayanja’s growing résumé.
His list of collaborations has since expanded to include established and emerging names such as Jose Chameleone, Pallaso, Weasel, Expect Xhavi, Sean Offixial, Cxj Powell, Remz and Calvin Ryta.
Mayanja has also graduated from the Swangz Music Production Academy, strengthening the technical foundation behind his work.
Now, he is moving beyond the traditional role of a behind-the-scenes producer.
His upcoming six-track EP features Sean Offixial, Remz, Cxj Powell, Pallaso, Weasel and Jose Chameleone, giving Mayanja an opportunity to present his creative direction through a project carrying his identity.
The EP represents a shift from simply producing records for other artists to building a body of work that showcases his own creative vision and evolving sound.
Mayanja’s ambitions extend beyond Uganda. He hopes to collaborate with major artists across Africa while continuing to develop a signature sound and catalogue that reflects his growth.
He also wants to use his experience to create opportunities for upcoming artists and producers.
For someone whose journey began by watching music being made at Pallaso’s studio during a school vacation, Mayanja on the Beat is now working toward becoming more than the name behind the boards. His next move is putting that creative identity directly on the music.
