A 26-year-old Kyambogo University student was found dead in her hostel room in Banda on Monday, September 28, according to the university’s Office of the Dean of Students.
The student, identified as Precious Musimenta, was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and was attached to North Hall.
Kyambogo University said Musimenta was found dead in her room at Sports Pro-Hostel in Banda.
“The late was found dead in her room at Sports Pro-Hostel in Banda today, Monday 28th September 2026,” Dean of Students Dr Agnes Nakimuli Mugalu wrote in a communication to Vice-Chancellor Prof Eli Katunguka.
Cause of Death Yet to Be Established
The circumstances surrounding Musimenta’s death remain unclear.
The university said her body was taken to City Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
“The body has been taken to City Mortuary for further investigations where a post mortem report on the cause of her death will be provided,” the university said.
The university has not disclosed a suspected cause of death pending the findings of the postmortem examination.
University Contacts Family
The university’s Student Welfare Department has started engaging Musimenta’s family regarding burial arrangements.
Musimenta was registered at Kyambogo University under registration number 26/UIAFD/06334/PD.
The university community is awaiting further information as investigations into the circumstances of her death continue.
According to Uganda Police’s latest annual crime report, the country recorded 4,238 homicide cases in 2025, compared with 4,329 cases in 2024. The national figures do not establish any connection between those cases and Musimenta’s death.
