Four of Bobi Wine’s bodyguards have been granted cash bail of Shs20 million each in the ongoing aggravated robbery case before a court in Masaka.
The four are Eddie Mutwe, Gadafi Mugumya, Achileo Kivumbi and Wakabi Grace Smart, all associated with National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine.
However, the bail ruling does not mean all four will immediately walk out of custody.

NUP lawyer Samuel Muyizzi clarified after the court proceedings that Mutwe and Kivumbi will remain incarcerated because they have another pending bail matter before the High Court.
Muyizzi said the separate matter stems from an earlier bail denial at Kawempe Magistrates Court in Kanyanya and that the relevant files are now before the High Court.
“Eddie Mutwe and Achileo Kivumbi cannot be released now.”
According to Muyizzi, Masaka court will issue a release order in relation to the aggravated robbery case, but that order will not override the separate matter keeping the two men in custody.
“They remain in prison pending the hearing of their bail application for review of the bail that was denied in Kawempe, Kanyanya.”

The lawyer said the legal team remains hopeful that the Masaka decision could influence the High Court’s consideration of the pending bail application.
“Those files are before the High Court, but we believe the reason behind this matter may persuade those of Kampala to follow suit.”
Muyizzi added that the immediate focus was on processing the release of the suspects who are eligible to leave custody while continuing the legal process for Mutwe and Kivumbi.
“We shall not volunteer much as of now because we have a duty to ensure that these people leave today.”
The development has also drawn attention from NUP supporters online, with one post on X celebrating the bail decision and describing the four as “comrades.”
For now, the Masaka ruling provides a significant legal development for all four accused men, but Mutwe and Kivumbi still face an additional hurdle before they can be released.
