Going on a first date can bring pressure to look impressive, say the right things and make the other person want a second meeting. But Ugandan socialite Prima Kardashi believes trying too hard to please someone can work against you.
Kardashi, whose real name is Prima Ndagire, has shared advice on making a good first impression, encouraging people to remain authentic rather than trying to appear perfect.
In a video seen by the reporter, she said people can sometimes make their efforts to impress so obvious that the date notices their discomfort.
“You are trying to be perfect… the person you are out with sees that you are struggling/trying so hard to please them… you just have to be you,” Kardashi said.
Her advice centres on confidence, appropriate self-disclosure and personal presentation.
1. Be Yourself Instead of Trying to Be Perfect
According to Kardashi, one of the biggest first-date mistakes is putting too much pressure on yourself to impress the other person.
Trying to say everything correctly or constantly seeking approval can make an encounter feel less natural. Rather than treating a date like an audition, people can focus on having a genuine conversation and discovering whether they connect with the person sitting across from them.
Authenticity also makes it easier to recognise whether both people are comfortable with each other’s personalities, expectations and interests.
The goal is not to abandon good manners or effort. It is to avoid pretending to be someone you are not simply to win someone’s approval.
2. Be Careful About How Much You Reveal
Kardashi also warned about sharing too much personal information too quickly, particularly details about one’s private life and sexual experiences.
She suggested that the amount someone is willing to disclose can raise questions about their boundaries.
First dates are an opportunity to get to know another person, but that does not mean every private detail needs to be discussed immediately. People can decide what they are comfortable sharing and allow trust to develop over time.
However, openness is not automatically a red flag. The important distinction is whether someone feels comfortable with the conversation and whether personal boundaries are respected.

3. Dress Elegantly for the Occasion
When asked how a woman should dress for a first date, Kardashi kept her answer brief.
“Look elegant,” she advised.
The recommendation points towards choosing an outfit that feels polished and appropriate for the venue without sacrificing personal comfort.
An elegant first-date look does not have to be expensive or elaborate. A well-fitting outfit, clean shoes, thoughtful accessories and attention to grooming can help create a put-together appearance.
Ultimately, the best choice is something that reflects the wearer’s personal style and allows them to feel comfortable throughout the date.
What Kardashi Has Said About Relationships
Kardashi has previously spoken publicly about her approach to relationships, including her views on financial provision, happiness and partners dating other people.
In an earlier interview, she said she prioritises her own happiness and financial security, adding that she would not necessarily object to a partner having other women if her needs were being met.
“Me I’m about my business, my life, my happiness,” she said in remarks reported by Pulse Uganda.
Those comments reflect her personal perspective on relationships and should not be taken as a universal formula for successful dating. People have different expectations about exclusivity, fidelity and financial responsibilities, making it important for partners to communicate their boundaries and agree on what their relationship means.
Kardashi has also been linked publicly to radio personality Henry Arinaitwe, known as Mr. Henrie, and musician Geosteady, whose real name is George William Kigozi.
Speculation has circulated about a possible reconciliation between Kardashi and Geosteady, but the source material states that both have said they are currently free to date other people. A renewed relationship should not be presented as confirmed without further evidence.
Making a First Date Feel More Natural
Kardashi’s advice comes down to three practical ideas: avoid performing for approval, be thoughtful about personal boundaries and dress in a way that makes you feel confident.
A first date is not just about convincing someone to like you. It is also a chance to determine whether you like them and whether your expectations are compatible.
Being yourself does not guarantee a second date, but it can help both people make a more honest assessment of the connection they are building.
