A shocking turn of events has left Arizona authorities and the public stunned. Christopher Scholtes, 35, who pled guilty to the murder of his 2-year-old daughter Parker, was found dead the night before he was scheduled to surrender to authorities ahead of his sentencing.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner in Phoenix confirmed Scholtes’ November 4 death is being investigated as a possible suicide. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that carbon monoxide poisoning is under consideration, though the medical examiner will make the final determination.

The Tragic Case of Parker Scholtes

In July of last year, Scholtes left his toddler daughter Parker asleep inside his car in Marana, a suburb of Tucson. Reports indicate that while Parker remained in the vehicle, Scholtes went inside his home and reportedly played video games and watched porn, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

  • The outside temperature reached 109 degrees that day
  • Parker was trapped in the car for approximately 3 hours
  • Paramedics rushed the toddler to the hospital, but her body temperature had reached 108.9 degrees, and she was pronounced dead

The heartbreaking incident shocked the community and sparked widespread outrage.

Guilty Plea and Upcoming Sentencing

Two weeks ago, Scholtes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse. Under a plea deal, he faced up to 30 years in prison for the charges combined. His sentencing was scheduled for November 21, and he was supposed to turn himself in the night before his death.

Authorities say Scholtes’ death abruptly halts the legal process, leaving the community grappling with grief and questions about justice for Parker.

Family Fallout and Emotional Struggles

The family drama didn’t end with Parker’s death. Scholtes’ other daughter, who turns 18 this month, filed a lawsuit against him last month for emotional distress, according to Tucson’s KVOA-TV.

The case underscores the lingering trauma for families affected by tragic acts of abuse and neglect, highlighting the deep emotional toll on surviving loved ones.

Investigation Continues

Authorities are treating Scholtes’ death as suspicious and under investigation. With carbon monoxide poisoning as a potential cause, law enforcement and the medical examiner are working to determine exactly what happened the night before he was to report for sentencing.

  • Tragic timing: Death occurred before sentencing, leaving questions unanswered
  • Family impact: Surviving children facing emotional trauma

This case continues to reverberate through Tucson and Arizona at large, with many struggling to process both Parker’s death and Scholtes’ unexpected demise.
