Mubarak Munyagwa, president of the Common Man’s Party (CMP), paid a solidarity visit to opposition stalwart Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Hajji Obeid Lutale, at Luzira Maximum Prison on Friday.

Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, has been detained on treason-related charges since his abduction in Nairobi, Kenya, on November 16, 2024, marking more than 300 days in detention.

The launch was announced by Al Mamoun East Africa, which has a strong presence in Sudan, South Sudan, the UAE, and other markets. The company has been appointed exclusive distributor of Jetour vehicles in Uganda, with a showroom and aftersales service center in Namanve, Kampala.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has convened a high-level meeting with representatives of all eight cleared presidential candidates to coordinate campaign schedules and ensure a smooth, conflict-free election period for 2026.

The session, chaired by EC Secretary Richard Kamugisha Baabo, included campaign agents such as Robert Centenary from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Rovans Lwanyaga representing the National Unity Platform (NUP). The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Yoweri Museveni were represented by Moses Byaruhanga.

Police officials were also in attendance to provide guidance on security arrangements for campaign activities across the country.

Dubai authorities have detained Charles “Abbey” Mwesigwa, the Ugandan-German national recently exposed by the BBC as allegedly running a degrading sex-trade network in the UAE.

Mwesigwa, who holds dual citizenship, initially appeared before police and was released on bond. However, authorities arrested him after he attempted to flee the country, checking in online for a flight.

According to sources, Mwesigwa is under scrutiny for trafficking young Ugandan women to Dubai under the guise of legitimate employment. Victims were reportedly coerced into prostitution, with some believing they were travelling for jobs in hotels or supermarkets.

Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC), Uganda’s government-owned automotive company, has formally requested an additional $143 million from President Yoweri Museveni to fund the next phase of its vehicle manufacturing plant in Jinja.

The funding request was delivered on Friday by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, acting on behalf of Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr. Monica Musenero, during the plant’s official commissioning ceremony.

“While touring the facility, my colleague in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation asked me to tell Your Excellency that the plant requires another $143 million for expansion. I believe you now owe these people at Kiira Motors,” Minister Kasaija told President Museveni.
