Uganda’s music scene was buzzing after President Yoweri Museveni publicly raised concerns over Bebe Cool’s long-promised recording studio, but UNMF president Eddy Kenzo is calling for a focus on progress rather than blame.

The remarks came during the launch of the Yoweri Music Album, a project compiled by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) to celebrate the growth of Uganda’s creative industry.

Museveni Questions Bebe Cool Studio Progress

During the event, the President revealed that he had extended support to Bebe Cool to establish a recording center, but noted that he had not received updates on its development.

“We supported Bebe Cool to set up a recording studio, but we have not been updated on its progress,” Museveni stated, prompting murmurs across the audience.

Despite this, Museveni praised Kenzo and his team for efficiently using funds already allocated to the music sector, highlighting the importance of accountability and progress.

Eddy Kenzo’s Measured Response

Speaking to the media afterward, Kenzo stressed that dwelling on past challenges isn’t productive. Instead, he emphasized celebrating the achievements and progress the industry has made.

“For us, we appreciate each and every step which was taken before and we started from there to where we are now. Sometimes we don’t want to go back to such conversations yet we have this,” Kenzo said.

The UNMF president also highlighted Bebe Cool’s continued importance in Uganda’s music industry.

“We still need Bebe Cool in many things as an elder, and he has guided us in so many ways. I can’t start pointing fingers at what Bebe Cool did or didn’t do, but I believe he will sort his issues with the President.”
