Ugandan singer Jowy Landa has made headlines by revealing she is willing to perform for any political party, whether in opposition or the ruling NRM, as long as the payment meets her standards.

The outspoken artist, known for hits that resonate across Uganda, emphasized that she doesn’t mix politics with business.

“I can perform for any political party if the money is right and my management agrees. I will eat the money. I won’t suffer because of opinions. Let them hire us and we work,” Jowy Landa said.

Business Over Politics

Jowy’s stance comes amid debates around musicians’ roles in political campaigns, especially following the recent Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) album in support of President Museveni, which attracted public scrutiny.

The singer clarified that she’s a registered member of the UNMF SACCO under the Luwero artists’ category, and she expects her fair share of any payments issued through the union.

“I registered in the UNMF SACCO under the Luwero artists, and I’m telling Eddy Kenzo if the money comes out, I need my share. I didn’t get the first money because I hadn’t registered yet, but I’m waiting for the second package,” she explained.

No Room for Politics in Performance

Jowy Landa’s candid approach reflects a pragmatic view common among professional musicians, where financial incentives outweigh political affiliations.

Her remarks suggest that musicians should be valued for their craft, not judged based on the political leanings of their clients.
