Ugandan songbird Maureen Nantume couldn’t hold back tears during a recent press conference hosted by veteran artist Mesach Semakula — a moment that left fans and fellow musicians deeply moved.

In an emotional scene that quickly spread across social media, Nantume dropped to her knees before Semakula, visibly overwhelmed with gratitude and humility. Her heartfelt words painted a touching picture of respect, mentorship, and deep appreciation for the legendary singer and the former Eagles Production team who helped shape her career from the very beginning.

“There’s No Story of Mine Without You”

Through tears, Nantume addressed Semakula directly, thanking him for believing in her talent when few others did.

“There is nothing I have earned without the contribution of Mesach Semakula. There is no story of mine without you,” she said emotionally. “Thank you so much, and I thank God for using you and making a huge contribution to my life.”

The audience watched in silence as Nantume spoke, many visibly touched by her sincerity. Semakula himself appeared emotional, his eyes welling up as he nodded in appreciation of her words.

Honoring a Mentor’s Legacy

Nantume didn’t stop at praising Semakula — she also gave flowers to another Ugandan music legend, Ronald Mayinja, whom she described as a guiding light in her personal and professional journey.

“I have always been under the guidance of Ronald Mayinja, who has always shown me the right direction and how to handle different matters in life,” she said.

The singer’s heartfelt speech highlighted the power of mentorship in Uganda’s music industry, especially among artists who emerged from the golden era of the Eagles Production band — a powerhouse that launched the careers of several household names in East African music.

The Dream Studios Memory That Changed Everything

Nantume also reminisced about her early music struggles and how Semakula stepped in to guide her path. She recalled one pivotal moment when he urged her to take her first songs to Dream Studios, one of Uganda’s top recording facilities at the time, to ensure they got the best production quality possible.

“Even with my first songs in the studio, he asked me to take them to Dream Studio to have them mastered and released,” Nantume remembered.

That decision would become a turning point in her career — setting her on the path to becoming one of Uganda’s most celebrated female vocalists.

Fans React to the Emotional Moment

The viral clip from the press conference has since made rounds on TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook, with fans showering Nantume and Semakula with love and admiration.

“Maureen is a true definition of grace and gratitude,” one fan wrote. “She never forgets where she came from.”

Another commented, “Seeing her thank Semakula like that made me emotional. These are the stories we need to celebrate in Ugandan music.”
