Uganda’s Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, has offered a glimpse into his life beyond elections and public office, revealing that he is an avid music lover with a particular appreciation for gospel music.

“I listen to so many, and some are foreign, in West Africa, in Uganda… any artist singing gospel… I enjoy that. These other ones, I’m sorry, I don’t follow your music a lot.”
He added that gospel music keeps him company even during long road trips.
“I can travel from here to Gulu listening to gospel music. There are so many that I like from our local musicians. I don’t have any specific preference of an artist.”
Rather than following one particular performer, Byabakama said he enjoys gospel music from a wide range of artists.

He acknowledged that he is not an active social media user, explaining that the demands of his office leave him with little time to keep up with online conversations and trends.
Even so, he said criticism directed at him personally does not concern him.
“But I always tell people, even those that abuse me, I don’t care as long as you don’t destabilise the country with your content.”
