Ugandan songstress Gloria Bugie has revealed that her phone was stolen, just days after finding herself at the center of a heated online controversy.
Bugie has recently been trending following her comments about fellow musician Crysto Panda, particularly remarks concerning his late daughter and parents that drew criticism from sections of the public.
Amid the controversy, Bugie took to her WhatsApp status to announce that she was no longer reachable through her usual phone.
“My phone was stolen. If you need me urgently, call me on direct calls. This has been posted by a MacBook,” she wrote.
The announcement quickly raised questions online, with some netizens wondering whether the phone theft could somehow be connected to the controversy surrounding her recent remarks.
There is, however, no evidence provided to establish any connection between the reported theft and the backlash Bugie has been facing.
Instead, the discussion has shifted to the wording of her WhatsApp update — particularly her claim that the status was posted using a MacBook.
Some netizens have questioned whether it is possible to post a WhatsApp status from a MacBook under the circumstances Bugie described. They claim that updating a WhatsApp status through WhatsApp’s desktop or web platform would require access to the original WhatsApp account on a phone.
Those claims, however, remain questions raised by netizens, rather than established evidence that Bugie’s account of the stolen phone is untrue.
For now, Bugie’s own account is straightforward: she says her phone was stolen and asked anyone who needs to reach her urgently to use direct calls.
