The Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom is asking for prayers for His Royal Majesty Dr. Rukirabasaija Agutamba Iguru Solomon Gafabusa after the kingdom’s Chief Prince revealed that the Omukama is not in good health.
Chief Prince (Okwiri) Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya disclosed the King’s health situation while speaking to the media, saying the Omukama has been unwell.
Mugenyi did not disclose the nature of the King’s illness or provide further medical details. Instead, he appealed to well-wishers, kingdom subjects and friends of Bunyoro-Kitara to pray for the King’s recovery.
The revelation puts fresh attention on King Iguru Solomon Gafabusa, although the available information does not establish the severity of his condition or where he is receiving care.
The Chief Prince also used his media engagement to address a separate leadership issue within the kingdom involving Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi.
According to Mugenyi, Byakutaga’s tenure as Prime Minister expired several months ago, and the kingdom is now preparing to make changes to its leadership structures.
Mugenyi further urged Byakutaga to peacefully leave the Prime Minister’s office, calling on him to avoid conflict and unnecessary wrangles as the kingdom works through the leadership transition.
The two developments — the King’s reported health concerns and the expected changes within the kingdom’s leadership — come at a significant moment for Bunyoro-Kitara.

For now, however, Mugenyi’s message concerning the Omukama is centered on prayer, with the Chief Prince calling on Bunyoro’s subjects, friends and well-wishers to support King Iguru as he recovers.
