Police have arrested Vincent Nsamba, 41, in connection with the death of legendary Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala has confirmed.
Kawala announced the arrest via X, identifying Nsamba as the prime suspect in the case. According to the police spokesperson, he was apprehended in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District.
“The prime suspect in connection with the murder of Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses has been arrested,” Kawala said.
She identified the suspect as Nsamba Vincent, 41, and said his arrest followed investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, which began after the veteran musician was allegedly attacked in the early hours of Thursday, September 24, in Market Zone B, Kibuli, Makindye Division, Kampala.
Matovu was reportedly rushed to Kibuli Hospital following the incident, where he later died from his injuries.
Police had earlier confirmed that a female suspect was in custody while another male suspect was reportedly still at large. The latest police statement indicates that Nsamba, whom authorities identify as the prime suspect, has now been taken into custody.
Kawala said investigations remain ongoing as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death and identify everyone responsible.
“Investigations into the murder are ongoing, with police working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all those responsible to justice,” she said.
The arrest comes as family, friends, fellow musicians and fans prepare to bid farewell to Matovu, one of Uganda’s most celebrated musicians and a longtime member of Afrigo Band.
Police have not, in the statement provided, disclosed further details about the evidence against Nsamba or the specific circumstances surrounding his alleged involvement. Those details may emerge as investigations continue.
