Matovu Moses, identified by Uganda Police as a musician with Afrigo Band, has died after he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants at Kibuli Market in Kampala.
According to a statement posted by Uganda Police on September 24, 2026, police at Kabalagala registered a case of suspected murder following the incident at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division.
Police said Moses was allegedly attacked in the morning and rushed to Kibuli Hospital for medical attention. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation.
Uganda Police said a task team had been deployed to the scene to establish what happened and that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the suspected attackers.
“Police at Kabalagala have registered a case of suspected murder involving Matovu Moses, a musician with Afrigo Band,” the police statement said.
Police added that more information would be released as the investigation progresses.
The death comes as a major development involving a name closely associated with Afrigo Band, one of Uganda’s longest-running musical groups. Historical profiles identify Moses Matovu as a founding figure and longtime leader of Afrigo Band, which was formed in the 1970s.
For now, investigators are focused on establishing the events leading to the attack, identifying those responsible and determining the circumstances surrounding Moses’ death.
The police investigation remains ongoing, with further details expected as authorities continue their work.
