Prima Kardashi is preparing to swap the TV spotlight for the DJ booth.
The outspoken public figure has revealed that she is heading back to class to sharpen her deejaying skills, potentially becoming the latest female celebrity to make the jump behind the decks.
The Ugandan DJ scene has increasingly seen female celebrities, radio personalities, TV stars and TikTokers take up deejaying, challenging the idea that the DJ booth is traditionally a male-dominated space.
Now, Prima appears ready to join them.
She revealed that her first DJ class is scheduled for tomorrow, with the training set to take place at Acacia over a five-week period.
And Prima already has a name picked out for her new career.
She plans to officially baptise herself “Prima DJ” and unveil the new identity through a YouTube video and promotional posters once she completes her training.
“Tomorrow is first deejaying class. I will be training from Acacia. I’m going to study for five weeks. I will baptize myself Prima DJ.”
Prima also expects the training to translate into actual gigs once she graduates, saying the relationships she has built within Uganda’s entertainment and events industry could help open doors.
“Then I will upload a YouTube video. It will unveil me as an official DJ and also print posters unveiling and I start getting gigs.”
If she follows through with the plan, Prima will join a growing group of female DJs in Uganda, including DJ Apple 256, DJ GiaNina, DJ Coco Must Shine, DJ Lyda Ddane and DJ Zatto.
The move comes shortly after Prima left Sanyuka Makula TV, where she had worked for about three months.
Her departure was reportedly linked to a disagreement over a salary increment request. According to reports, Prima wanted her monthly salary increased to Shs3 million, but the request was reportedly rejected by her bosses.
With that chapter now seemingly behind her, Prima is preparing to build another lane in entertainment.
And this time, she won’t be holding a microphone in front of a television camera — she’ll be behind the decks.
