Vinka Names Carol Nantongo as One of Her Genuine Friends in Uganda’s Music Industry
Vinka has opened up about friendship in Uganda’s entertainment industry, revealing that fellow singer Carol Nantongo is among the few artists she considers a genuinely close friend.
The Swangz Avenue star shared her perspective on maintaining real relationships in a music industry where many people believe friendships between artists are often difficult to sustain.
Speaking during an interview with Allan Cruz, Vinka was asked whether she has close friends within the entertainment space, given the common perception that musicians sometimes struggle to build lasting bonds because of competition and public expectations.
Her response highlighted Carol Nantongo as someone she considers a true friend.
Vinka pointed to the fact that she recently attended Carol Nantongo’s baby shower as an example of their relationship beyond the spotlight.
“I went to Carol Nantongo’s baby shower and she’s my friend,” Vinka said.
She explained that while many of her closest friendships come from people she knew before entering the music industry, she has also built meaningful connections with fellow artists.
“My problem is that my tight friends are the girls I went to school with, but many musicians are my friends. You might not see us, but they are,” she added.
Vinka said one reason many people may not recognize her industry friendships is because she does not constantly showcase them online.
Unlike celebrities who frequently share every moment of their relationships on social media, the singer explained that she prefers keeping some connections private.

According to Vinka, this approach has helped her avoid unnecessary public conflicts that can happen when celebrity friendships are heavily displayed online.
“That’s why I greet all of them when I find them. Why would I bring people close and pretend to be friends and fall out? It means my approach is better,” she said.
Keeping Friendships Away From Public Pressure
Vinka’s comments highlight a different approach to celebrity relationships, where not every friendship needs public validation to be meaningful.
The singer suggested that privacy allows friendships to grow naturally without the pressure that often comes from public expectations.
In an industry where collaborations, competition, and public appearances frequently put artists under scrutiny, she believes genuine relationships can exist even when fans do not regularly see them together.
Vinka, whose real name is Veronica Luggya, is one of Uganda’s leading female artists and a member of the Swangz Avenue music family.
Over the years, she has built a reputation through hit songs, performances, and collaborations while becoming one of the recognizable voices in Uganda’s contemporary music scene.
Carol Nantongo is also an established Ugandan singer known for her vocal ability and contributions to the country’s music industry.
The two artists have remained respected figures in Uganda’s entertainment space, although Vinka’s comments suggest their friendship has mostly existed away from public attention.
Why It Matters
Friendships among public figures often attract attention because fans frequently judge celebrity relationships based on what they see online.
Vinka’s comments challenge the idea that artists must constantly display their connections publicly for those relationships to be real.
Her perspective also highlights how some entertainers choose to protect personal relationships by keeping them away from social media conversations.
For Vinka, friendship appears to be less about public appearances and more about trust and consistency.
By choosing not to document every personal connection online, she says she has been able to maintain relationships without the pressure of public expectations.
Her comments offer a reminder that some of the strongest celebrity friendships may happen away from cameras and social media.
As Uganda’s music industry continues to grow, Vinka says genuine friendships still exist behind the scenes — even when fans do not always get to see them.
