Police homicide detectives are investigating the death of a second-year Makerere University student whose body was discovered near the university’s Main Library.
The deceased was identified by Makerere University and Nkrumah Hall leadership as Kabuye Kelvin Charles, a Bachelor of Architecture student at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT).
According to Makerere University, Kabuye’s body was discovered in the early hours of September 28, 2026, inside the fenced area housing an MTN telecommunications mast opposite the Main Library.
University security reported the discovery to Makerere Police Station, after which police officers responded to the scene.
The university said the investigation was subsequently handed over to the Wandegeya Homicide Desk and Scene of Crime Officers.
Cause of Death Remains Unknown
The circumstances surrounding Kabuye’s death have not been established.
Makerere University said investigators have requested a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The university said it is cooperating with police as investigations continue and that further information would be provided when available from the investigating authorities.
Kabuye was a resident of Nkrumah Hall, Room C34. In a statement issued by the hall, Chairman Joseph Ssekabira described him as a dedicated second-year Architecture student and conveyed condolences to his family, friends and classmates.
Nkrumah Hall leadership had earlier announced that Kabuye had been found dead within a network mast enclosure close to the university’s College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) and Main Library.
The hall did not provide details about how Kabuye died or how he came to be inside the fenced mast area.
University Offers Counselling Support
Makerere University has offered counselling and psychosocial support to students and staff affected by the death through its Counselling and Guidance Centre.
The university management also extended condolences to Kabuye’s family, friends and classmates.
Police investigations remain ongoing, with the post-mortem examination expected to provide further information about the circumstances of his death.
