Ugandan singer Pretty Banks says she would not allow a man to dictate whether she continues with her music career, insisting that marriage should not come at the expense of her independence or ambitions.
Speaking on a podcast, Pretty Banks revealed that she has received marriage proposals but made it clear that any man who wants to be with her must understand the importance of her music and personal goals.
The singer said she wants a partner who supports her ambitions rather than one who tries to control them.
“I have gotten people who want to marry me, and it’s not about money that controls me or my music. Be supportive, but don’t rule me. You should support my dream,” she said.

For Pretty Banks, genuine support means helping a partner find ways to grow rather than demanding that they abandon what they have built.
She suggested that a supportive man could even help create other business opportunities for her to pursue alongside music, rather than asking her to leave the entertainment industry altogether.
Her position is closely tied to how she views herself. Pretty Banks said she has become accustomed to being independent and does not want to enter a relationship where that independence would be compromised.
“You can’t control me because I have been an independent woman, and that’s why I go slow on relationships,” she added.
The singer’s comments highlight what she says she would expect from a potential marriage: partnership without control.
For Pretty Banks, the right relationship would not require her to choose between love and music. Instead, she wants a partner who can support the dream she already has while allowing her to remain in charge of her own career.
