In a surprising revelation, Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, a senior officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has admitted that she is a fan of Bobi Wine’s music, calling him her favorite artist.

Speaking with Radio 4’s Adam Kungu, Nalweyiso emphasized that artists should have the freedom to perform at President Museveni’s events without fear, regardless of political affiliations.

“Bobi Wine is an artist I appreciate. I do not understand why @NRMOnline does not invite him to perform at our official functions.” – Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso#Radio4UG pic.twitter.com/OAKpwMSMJw

Bobi Wine Should Be Welcome

“Bobi Wine is not barred from performing at President Museveni’s events. He is permitted to because he, too, is an artist,” she told Radio 4.

The UPDF general noted that performers are invited to entertain crowds at NRM gatherings, and Bobi Wine — despite being the 2026 NUP Presidential Candidate — should also feel welcome to showcase his talent.

“I have no idea why he is not invited to these events, if that is the case, because he is a good singer. He is my favourite artist,” Nalweyiso said.

Investigating the Alleged Ban

Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso also addressed reports suggesting Bobi Wine has been banned from holding concerts in Uganda.

“I will try to find out why he is barred from holding a concert of his own and performing. There must be a reason. Is it that he holds concerts in the wrong venues? But if he held a microphone and sang at his rally, would they really arrest him?”

Her comments indicate no personal opposition to Bobi Wine performing and suggest she may seek clarity on why restrictions, if any, exist.

Bobi Wine: From Music to Politics

Bobi Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has long balanced his dual identity as a musician and politician. He rose to fame with hit songs that resonate with Uganda’s youth, and his political activism has since made him a polarizing figure in the country.

Nalweyiso’s praise for his artistry highlights a rare cross-political acknowledgment of his musical talent, signaling that music and politics can, at least in part, remain separate spheres.

Fans React

Social media erupted following her interview:

  • “Even generals have good taste in music 😂 Bobi Wine’s the man!”
  • “Respect! Shows you can like the music without agreeing politically.”
  • “This is the crossover moment we didn’t know we needed!”

Fans also speculated whether her comments might open doors for Bobi Wine to perform at more official events, even amid political tensions.
