KAMPALA — Ugandan singer Phoebe Nassolo has publicly threatened to take her sister, Betty Mpologoma, to court over what she describes as defamatory claims that have left her reputation in tatters.

The drama first erupted earlier this year when social media erupted over shocking reports that Betty Mpologoma allegedly had Phoebe thrown in jail over claims she stole their mother’s cows. According to Betty, Phoebe sold the family cows and kept the proceeds for herself—a claim that sent shockwaves through their family and left their mother hospitalized in distress.

Clearing Her Name

Speaking to the press, Phoebe Nassolo categorically denied the accusations, stating that the matter was under the purview of the courts, and justice would reveal the truth.

“I do not have a serious problem with Betty Mpologoma, but she loves accusing people without evidence. She presents a different image, yet her heart is different. She falsely accuses others,” Phoebe told journalists.

She emphasized that her sister’s claims were malicious, targeting not only her relationship with their mother but also the career and name she has built over the years.

Plot to Tarnish Her Image

Phoebe explained that the allegations stemmed from sibling rivalry, noting that Betty has always been the mother’s favorite. According to her, the false accusations were an attempt to damage her reputation and create rifts within the family.

“How could she claim I stole my mother’s cows? I have always supported my mother and defended her. They wanted to destroy my name for her to hate me. They wanted to separate us, so they stole from her,” Phoebe said.

She added that she is coordinating with a UK promoter to bring her sister to justice, signaling that the matter could escalate to an international legal stage.

Support From Fans and Fellow Artists

Throughout the controversy, Phoebe Nassolo has received strong backing from fans and fellow musicians, including Eddy Kenzo, who stood by her side as the dispute unfolded. The singer expressed gratitude to those who supported her during the public ordeal, noting that their encouragement helped her stay resilient.

“I thank the court for handling the matter well. I also thank my fans and Eddy Kenzo for standing by me and fighting for my freedom,” she said.

The Bigger Picture

This family feud has reignited discussions on sibling rivalry, fame, and the pressures of public life in Uganda’s entertainment industry. Social media users have been divided, with some backing Phoebe’s stance for protecting her name, while others question the motives behind Betty Mpologoma’s allegations.

Legal experts say that defamation cases in Uganda can be complex, especially when they involve family members and cross-border considerations. Phoebe’s decision to involve a UK promoter indicates that the case could set a precedent for how celebrity disputes are handled internationally, particularly when reputation and career are at stake.

Social Media Reaction

Fans have flooded social media platforms with messages of support, memes, and commentary:

  • “Phoebe deserves justice! You can’t just drag someone’s name through the mud like that.”
  • “Betty really needs to think twice before making claims like this. Reputation matters!”
  • “Eddy Kenzo standing by Phoebe is everything. True friends show up in hard times.”

What’s Next?

As the story continues to unfold, all eyes are on the courts to see how Phoebe Nassolo’s potential defamation suit against Betty Mpologoma will play out. The case has not only shaken the family but also captivated Uganda’s entertainment community and social media audiences alike.

With her career and personal brand on the line, Phoebe Nassolo’s next moves will likely determine whether justice prevails or the family feud escalates further.
