Dancehall sensation Ziza Bafana is addressing the controversy surrounding his recent appearance at the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) event, which coincided with the launch of the Yoweri Music Album supporting President Museveni and the ruling NRM party.

Known for his vocal support of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Bafana reassured fans that his attendance was not a political statement but rather a gesture of respect and friendship toward fellow musicians.

Friendship Over Politics

Bafana explained that his presence at the event was largely driven by his long-standing relationship with Eddy Kenzo, a prominent figure in Uganda’s music scene.

“The event was about informing artists. We picked some leaders as musicians and Eddy Kenzo is one of them. I might not agree with his decisions and choices, but he’s a fellow musician and he’s among the first people I started music with. Kenzo was the first artist to take me to Club Vault and also gave me a shirt one time. My friendship with him is beyond political parties,” Bafana said.

Personal Invitation from Eddy Kenzo

According to Bafana, Eddy Kenzo personally invited him after Bafana publicly criticized the UNMF, prompting him to reconsider the event.

“Kenzo called me and invited me to the event. I reached and saw red carpets and other artists wearing yellow and said this isn’t where I belong,” he added, clarifying that his presence was not an endorsement of NRM policies.

Bafana further insisted that his political allegiance remains firmly with NUP, asking supporters to respect his decision to maintain professional relationships.

Navigating Politics in the Music Industry

The incident highlights the tightrope Ugandan musicians often walk between politics and professional relationships. Fans quickly reacted online, with many criticizing Bafana for attending an event linked to the ruling party despite his NUP alignment.

Bafana’s clarification is a reminder that friendship and professional respect often coexist alongside political convictions, especially in a creative industry where collaboration is key.

Ziza Bafana’s Message to Fans

The singer urged NUP supporters to ease up on him, noting that loyalty to friends doesn’t equate to betrayal of political ideals.

“My loyalty remains with NUP, but we must understand that music brings people together across political divides. Friendship in this industry matters, and it should not be politicized,” he said.
