The Ugandan film community is in mourning following the heartbreaking passing of beloved actress and teacher Maimuna Nicole Tumusiime, whose sudden death on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, has left colleagues, students, and fans in deep shock.

Nicole, affectionately known as “Teacher Nicole” by her students, was more than just an actress — she was a beacon of kindness, professionalism, and quiet strength whose influence reached across classrooms, film sets, and creative circles.

💫 A Talent Remembered

I first met Nicole in 2021, during a casting call for an infomercial by Raising Voices. She had accompanied her pupils from St. Marcelino Academy Matugga, where she taught. What stood out immediately was her gentleness, patience, and warmth toward the children — qualities that would later define her reputation both on and off-screen.

We ended up casting her as the adult lead, and she delivered a stunning, composed, and heartfelt performance. That project marked the beginning of multiple collaborations between us.

Our most recent work together was just last year, during a project where we faced creative disagreements with the client. Even amid the tension, Nicole remained calm and professional — though I could sense she was enduring personal struggles. She later reached out to me earlier this month after seeing a new casting call:

“Hullo, Ssalongo. How are you? Please cast me for that role you have shared in the group.”

I didn’t know then that it would be our last conversation.

🎭 Tributes Pour In

Nicole’s passing has triggered an outpouring of love and grief from colleagues and friends in Uganda’s creative industry.

🎬 Luswata Musa, writer and director of City Girl, shared:

“So sad, we had just cast her as a new character. We had even shot the first episode, and there were many more to come…”

🌹 Malaika Nnyanzi Tenshi, who starred alongside Nicole in JDC TV Series, posted:

“My heart is heavy 💔 I can’t believe you have gone, but I rest knowing you are with God. Our sweet darling Maimo (Principal Gabriella of JDC TV Show), working with you was an honor and a pleasure.”

🎥 Allan Manzi, director of JDC Series, recalled:

“She was the first actor I cast in the Kyaddala Series. I wrote a role specifically for her, and again, she was the first actor I cast in JDC. I created the role especially for her. She was truly remarkable and underrated.”

🎤 Stella Nante, actress and NTV host, added:

“I’ve worked with Nicole on a couple of projects. She’s one of the most gentle humans I’ve met — kind, talented, funny, and professional — and an awesome mother to her kids. Jesus Christ! It’s unbelievable that she’s no longer with us!”

📰 Veteran journalist Moses Sserugo reflected on her early artistic roots:

“A great Namasagali College actress! She played the lead in 1999’s The Republic of Feminia and 2000’s The Secret Agent. Even back then, she had something special.”

🌟 A Lasting Legacy

Nicole was a proud alumnus of Namasagali College, a school long known for nurturing some of Uganda’s finest artistic talent. Over the years, she graced screens with powerful performances that made her a household name among Ugandan film lovers.

Her standout role as Principal Gabriella in the JDC TV Series — produced by Allan Manzi, Nisha Kalema, and Malaika Nnyanzi — cemented her reputation as a gifted actress with rare emotional depth. She also featured in the beloved drama 5 @ Home, directed by Kennedy Kihire and produced by Fast Track Productions.

Beyond acting, she was deeply committed to education and community service, dedicating her life to nurturing young minds as a teacher at St. Marcelino Academy Matugga and other institutions. Her students adored her compassion, mentorship, and infectious joy.

🕊️ Gone Too Soon

Born May 8, 1978, Nicole tragically passed away on October 22, 2025, after reportedly suffering a seizure that led to cardiac arrest while working late in her school office.

She leaves behind four children, including her eldest — a devoted 20-year-old daughter who stood by her mother through her health struggles.

Nicole will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 4 p.m. in Buwenda, Jinja.

💐 Final Words

In a world that often forgets the quiet heroes behind the spotlight, Maimuna Nicole Tumusiime was a reminder that grace, kindness, and purpose never go unnoticed.

Her legacy — as a teacher, mother, and actress — will continue to inspire generations of artists who follow in her footsteps.

🕯️ Rest in peace, Nicole. You shone brightly — and your light will never be forgotten.
