Afrigo Band will continue operating as planned following the death of its founder and lead act, Moses Matovu, with management assuring clients and fans that existing bookings will be honoured.
Matovu died on September 24, 2026, and was buried last week. His death raised questions about the future of one of Uganda’s longest-running bands and how the group would move forward without its longtime leader.
Now, Afrigo Band management, led by James Wasula, says there will be no interruption to the band’s scheduled activities.
In a statement, management assured clients, corporate partners, fans and the general public that performances already booked with the band will go ahead.
“Management wishes to inform all our esteemed clients, corporate partners, fans, and the general public who have existing bookings with the Afrigo Band that all bookings shall be honoured.”
The statement also made clear that the band intends to maintain the performance standards associated with Afrigo Band, despite the loss of Matovu.
“The band remains intact and committed to delivering the quality performance that Afrigo is known for.”
The assurance comes as Afrigo Band begins navigating a new chapter without Matovu, who founded the group and served as its lead act.
Rather than announcing a pause in operations, management says the band will continue with its commitments while carrying forward Matovu’s legacy.
For Afrigo Band, the message is clear: Matovu’s death marks a major loss, but the band’s performances and existing commitments will continue.
