Ugandan DJ City Girl has questioned Uganda’s pace of development after visiting Singapore, saying the experience left her wondering when her home country would achieve similar progress.
Speaking during a TikTok Live, the DJ reflected on what she observed during her holiday in the Asian country, drawing a comparison with conditions back home and expressing frustration over Uganda’s development.
“I stepped out in Singapore, and that’s the only country I have stepped out to since I went on holiday. But I have seen what these guys do, and I wonder, when shall we ever develop?” City Girl said.

Her remarks suggest that seeing Singapore firsthand gave her a different perspective on the gap she perceives between the two countries. Rather than presenting her comments as a political argument, she said her concern was about Uganda’s progress and the need for greater attention to development.
City Girl also addressed arguments that developed countries rely heavily on borrowing to finance their progress. She dismissed that reasoning as insufficient to explain away Uganda’s own challenges.
“They will say those countries are running on credit and this and that, but we are doing worse, and it’s not something to make jokes about,” she said.
The DJ’s comments also focused on how Ugandans respond to the country’s difficulties. According to City Girl, humour has become a common way for people to cope with challenging situations, but she believes development concerns deserve more serious consideration.
Her remarks were a personal reflection following her Singapore visit, rather than a detailed assessment of the policies or economic factors behind the differences between the two countries.
Singapore is often discussed in conversations about national development, while City Girl’s comparison highlights her own expectations for Uganda and her concerns about the pace of progress.
Ultimately, her message was that Uganda’s development should be treated as a serious issue, not simply another subject for jokes.
