Uganda’s fast-rising music star Joshua Baraka is flying the national flag high once again after earning a prestigious nomination for Artist of the Year at the TikTok Awards Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Baraka, whose 2023 breakout single “Nana” turned him into one of East Africa’s most promising stars, couldn’t hide his excitement as he shared the big news with fans across social media.

“Huge news fam! I have been nominated for Artist of the Year at the #TikTokAwardsSSA. This one is for Uganda, for East Africa, and for everyone who has been rocking with me from day one,” he tweeted proudly.

A Major Win for Uganda’s Music Scene

This nomination marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s entertainment industry, placing Baraka among the continent’s most creative and influential artists on TikTok — a platform that has become one of the biggest drivers of viral music success.

Baraka now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of Africa’s most celebrated acts, including Moliy (Ghana), JazzWrld (South Africa), and Shallipopi (Nigeria) — all competing in the same category.

The recognition highlights not just Baraka’s musical talent but also his ability to connect with audiences through authentic content that resonates across borders.

About the TikTok Awards SSA

The TikTok Awards Sub-Saharan Africa is an annual celebration honoring creators, influencers, and artists who have made a remarkable impact both on and off the app.

This year’s event, themed “Creators of Culture,” aims to spotlight the power of digital creativity in uniting communities across the continent.

According to organizers, the awards will “highlight the extraordinary ways our creators have engaged, inspired, and connected communities on and off TikTok.”

From viral dance trends to powerful storytelling and chart-topping hits, the awards celebrate the digital creativity that defines Africa’s new generation of stars.

Joshua Baraka’s Meteoric Rise

Baraka’s nomination is hardly surprising for fans who have followed his incredible journey over the past two years. His hit single “Nana” not only topped regional charts but also became a viral anthem on TikTok, inspiring thousands of user-generated videos and dance challenges.

Since then, Baraka has continued to evolve as a genre-blending artist, fusing Afrobeat, R&B, and soul into a refreshing sound that has made him a favorite among young listeners.
