Ugandan music legend Mesach Semakula has spoken out about the heart-wrenching circumstances surrounding his mother’s death, revealing that she was manipulated and exploited by a fake pastor who preyed on her faith and frail health.

In a deeply emotional interview on Shalom 256, the Golden Papa singer shared that his late mother, who suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure, became increasingly vulnerable in her final years—and unfortunately, fell victim to religious deceit.

“It wasn’t a bad thing for her to get saved,” Mesach said. “But she was old, sick, and trusting. The pastor took advantage of that—and of the fact that she was Mesach Semakula’s mother.”

“They Took Her Money and Made Her an Elder in Their Church”

Mesach described how he often sent his mother money to support her daily needs, but soon noticed the funds were disappearing.

“I would send her 100k or 200k, and they would take a large part of it for church activities,” he explained. “They even made her an elder in the church just to control her more.”

When Mesach and his family realized the exploitation, they stopped sending cash directly and instead sent essential supplies like food and household goods. But even that didn’t stop the manipulation.

“They would come and take the things in half,” he recalled. “If it was a 20-litre jerrycan, they’d take 10 litres. One day, my mum got sick while in church, and instead of rushing her to hospital, they kept praying for her. I found them still praying when I arrived from Mbale.”

“They Told Her I Had Joined Illuminati”

Mesach’s frustration reached a breaking point when the deceit escalated into spiritual blackmail. After the incident, he personally took his mother to the hospital and warned staff not to allow any pastors near her. But upon recovery, she sadly returned to the same church.

“I even called respected pastors like Pastor Bugembe to talk to the man misleading her,” Mesach revealed. “But the pastor’s manipulation had gone too far.”

According to Mesach, the rogue pastor convinced his mother that her own son was evil—claiming he had joined the Illuminati and used her blood in rituals.

“He told her that the blood samples doctors took were being used for Illuminati sacrifices,” he said. “From that day, she stopped going to hospital and refused to take her medicine.”

“She Died Believing I Was Her Enemy”

Heartbreakingly, the pastor’s lies led Mesach’s mother to reject medical care and her family’s help altogether. She began asking for money to visit “hospitals of her choice,” which Mesach later discovered were fake healing centers tied to the same deceitful church network.

“It broke me,” he said quietly. “My mother died under those circumstances—believing her own son had turned against her.”

The tragedy left a deep scar on the singer, who now uses his story to warn Ugandans about fake pastors and religious manipulators who exploit the sick, elderly, and vulnerable for personal gain.

A Painful Lesson and a Powerful Message

Mesach urged fans and families to stay vigilant and protect their loved ones from spiritual exploitation.

“Faith is a good thing,” he reflected. “But not everyone who calls themselves a pastor is genuine. Some are just thieves using God’s name to destroy families.”

The emotional revelation has struck a chord with fans across Uganda, with many expressing sympathy and outrage on social media. Others have called for stronger regulation of self-proclaimed churches and spiritual healers who prey on people in distress.

💔 A Son’s Plea:
Mesach Semakula’s story serves as a sobering reminder that blind faith without wisdom can be deadly—and that love sometimes means protecting family from those who use religion as a weapon.
