Uganda now has both a Miss Uganda and a Miss Universe Uganda, but the two titles are not the same competition — and each winner has a different international stage to conquer.
The emergence of Miss Universe Uganda has understandably created questions among pageant fans about how the two crowns differ and which global competition each winner represents.
Both competitions select Ugandan representatives, but they operate through separate pageant systems, organizers and international franchises.
The easiest way to understand the difference is this: Miss Uganda leads to Miss World, while Miss Universe Uganda leads to Miss Universe.
That distinction separates the two crowns despite both carrying Uganda’s name.
The Miss Uganda and Miss Universe Uganda competitions are separate national pageants connected to two different international competitions.
The winner of Miss Uganda represents the country at the Miss World competition.
The winner of Miss Universe Uganda, meanwhile, represents Uganda at the Miss Universe competition.
That means winning one crown does not automatically qualify a contestant for the other international pageant.
Uganda’s current Miss Uganda is Muhoza Trivia Elle.
She recently travelled to Vietnam to represent Uganda at Miss World 2026, continuing the established connection between the Miss Uganda title and the Miss World competition.
The Miss Universe Uganda title is a much newer addition to the country’s pageantry landscape.
Mitchelle Daka made history after being crowned the first-ever Miss Universe Uganda.
Her title comes with a different international assignment: she is expected to represent Uganda at the Miss Universe 2026 competition in Puerto Rico in November.
So while both women carry Ugandan national titles, they are heading toward different global competitions.
One represents Uganda at Miss World.
The other represents Uganda at Miss Universe.
MISS UGANDA’S LONGER HISTORY
The Miss Uganda competition has a considerably longer history.
The pageant dates back to the 1960s, with Rosemary Salmon making history as the first Miss Uganda after winning the inaugural title in 1967.
Over the decades, the Miss Uganda crown has become an established part of Uganda’s beauty pageant culture.
Its connection to Miss World means the winner traditionally takes on the responsibility of representing Uganda at the global Miss World competition.
That is the path currently being followed by Muhoza Trivia Elle.
The Miss Universe Uganda competition, by comparison, represents a newer development in Uganda’s national pageantry system.
Mitchelle Daka’s victory therefore carries additional historical significance because she became the first woman to hold the title.
WHY THE TWO CROWNS CAN CAUSE CONFUSION
The confusion is understandable.
Both titles begin with “Miss Uganda”, both crown Ugandan women and both send their respective winners to major international beauty competitions.
But the international destinations are completely different.

International beauty pageants are major platforms for national representation, giving contestants opportunities to showcase their countries’ culture, personalities, advocacy work and achievements on a global stage.
Having two separate Ugandan franchises means the country can now have representatives competing in both Miss World and Miss Universe.
That also means Ugandan pageant fans have two different competitions to follow and two separate titleholders representing the country internationally.
For the contestants, however, the distinction is important because their national crowns determine the international competition they are expected to enter.
At the heart of both competitions are Ugandan women taking on the responsibility of representing their country abroad.
Muhoza Trivia Elle carries the Miss Uganda title into the Miss World system, while Mitchelle Daka carries the newly established Miss Universe Uganda crown into the Miss Universe system.
Their journeys are different, but both place Uganda on major international pageantry stages.
So, while Uganda now has two prominent beauty pageant crowns, the difference is straightforward: Miss Uganda sends its winner to Miss World, while Miss Universe Uganda sends its winner to Miss Universe. Both represent Uganda, but through two separate international pageant systems.
