KAMPALA — Uganda’s National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially cleared a star-studded lineup of candidates for the 2026 parliamentary elections in the central and eastern regions, sending fans and political observers buzzing.

Among the confirmed aspirants are well-known creatives and public figures, including Nina Roz, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, Dr. Hilderman, Mathias Walukagga, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Muyonjo Hussein alias Swengere, and Malende, who have all successfully secured their party nominations.

A Rigorous Selection Process

The NUP Electoral Commission confirmed that the vetting process was thorough, aiming to ensure only candidates with strong community support and leadership potential are chosen to represent their constituencies in Parliament.

“The card clearance process was conducted diligently. We ensured that those who have been cleared are well-positioned to serve and make an impact,” a party official said.

Creatives Take Center Stage

The inclusion of popular creatives signals NUP’s strategy to leverage cultural icons and influencers to energize voters, particularly among youth and urban constituencies. Each candidate expressed excitement and gratitude following their clearance, pledging to champion development, representation, and the interests of their respective regions.

  • Nina Roz: The celebrated artist has long been active in youth and cultural advocacy.
  • Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa: Known for blending music and social messaging, he aims to mobilize community engagement.
  • Dr. Hilderman: The doctor-turned-politician brings technical expertise to health and social policy.
  • Mathias Walukagga & Geoffrey Lutaaya: Both promise strong grassroots campaigns and constituency service.
  • Muyonjo Hussein alias Swengere & Malende: Emerging leaders ready to bring fresh voices to Parliament.

With official clearance secured, the candidates are now free to launch their campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections. Supporters can expect rallies, media appearances, and community outreach programs as each aspirant seeks to win hearts and votes in their constituencies.

What This Means for NUP

By endorsing a mix of celebrities, professionals, and grassroots organizers, NUP continues to position itself as a party that blends popularity with competence. Political analysts suggest that leveraging well-known creatives could boost voter engagement and help the party capture key constituencies in central and eastern Uganda.

“Involving high-profile figures like Nina Roz and Zambaali allows the party to connect with younger voters and create excitement around the elections,” said a political commentator.
