Nubian Li is making it clear that Bobi Wine’s departure did not bring his music career to an end.
The singer and politician has addressed claims that his musical journey stalled after his longtime collaborator and friend Bobi Wine left the country, insisting that he can continue making music regardless of whether Wine is around.
Nubian Li made the comments during an interview with Spark TV while announcing a new music project featuring pupils from Our Lady of Fatima, Bbina.
The project sees Nubian working with the young singers on an inspirational song focused on thanking God and encouraging people who may have lost hope.
“Bobi Wine leaving the country doesn’t stop me from doing music,” Nubian Li said. “In every situation I will still sing.”
He also explained that the song had been in the works for some time and felt particularly relevant because of events unfolding around the country.
Nubian Li stressed that Bobi Wine’s absence was not the reason he chose to work with the children. He said he would have pursued the collaboration even if Wine were still around.
“I didn’t sing with the children because Bobi Wine is away. Even if he was still around, I would still have sung with these children on this song,” he said.
The collaboration also gives Nubian Li an opportunity to introduce the younger generation to the realities of music production.
He described the pupils as extremely talented and said he wanted them to experience what it is like to work in a professional studio and create music intended for different platforms.
“This is the next generation in the industry,” he said.
Nubian Li added that, when he was younger, he admired the idea of singing alongside established stars but never got the opportunity. Working with the pupils, he said, allows him to give them an experience he once wished he could have had.
His musical partnership with Bobi Wine has been a significant part of his career. The pair worked together on songs including “Aniyaleta Okwagala” and “Adam Ne Kaawa,” following their meeting after the dismantling of Nubian Li’s former group, Nubian Squad. Their collaborations helped establish a recognizable musical partnership.
But Nubian Li is now signaling that his creative work does not depend on that partnership. His collaboration with the pupils is also not being presented as a one-off project, with the singer promising to work with them on more music in the future.
For Nubian Li, the message is straightforward: Bobi Wine may be away, but the music continues.
