Tracy Melon has opened up about an early moment in her music career that she says she has never forgotten — the support she received from Lydia Jazmine before she had established herself in Uganda’s music industry.
Speaking at Lydia Jazmine’s press conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Tracy recalled meeting the singer during a music competition that played a role in launching her musical journey.
Jazmine was part of the judging team for the competition, and Tracy said the established singer stood firmly behind her throughout the experience.
According to Tracy, Jazmine’s encouragement meant even more because she was already an artist Tracy admired and looked up to at the time.
“Lydia and I have a history that most people don’t know about,” Tracy said. “When I was starting music, I started from a music competition, and Lydia was part of the judging team. I saw Lydia support me wholeheartedly. She was actually Team Tracy.”
That early show of support apparently stayed with Tracy as her own career developed. Years later, finding herself seated alongside Jazmine at the singer’s press conference carried a special significance.
For Tracy, the moment represented more than simply sharing a stage with another artist. It was a reminder of how far her own journey had come since those early competition days.
“I feel delighted to be sitting on the same platform with her because it was like a dream,” she said. “I used to look up to her, and being seated right next to her is a dream come true.”
Tracy’s story also highlights the impact that encouragement from established artists can have on performers still trying to find their place in the industry.
While Jazmine was already someone Tracy admired, Tracy’s recollection suggests that the relationship took on another meaning when Jazmine chose to support her during a formative stage of her career.
Now, with both singers sharing the same platform, Tracy got the chance to publicly acknowledge a chapter of their history that she says many people did not know about.
And for someone who once watched Lydia Jazmine from the position of an aspiring artist, sitting beside her at a major press event was, in Tracy’s own words, a dream come true.
