Ugandan singer Victor Ruz, born Wajja Victor, has opened up about the personal challenges that prompted him to step away from music, revealing that family responsibilities and pressure as a breadwinner weighed heavily on him.
Ruz was among the young musicians who gained attention in Uganda’s music industry before his momentum slowed and he became less visible publicly. His absence raised questions about what had happened to his career, but the singer says his break was largely driven by private family matters.
During a recent interview, Ruz clarified that he was not dealing with health problems. Instead, he explained that he had personal responsibilities to handle and preferred to keep the details of his family life away from the public.
“I didn’t have any health problems; it was just the family issues. Like men, we deal with a lot of pressure. I’m the bread winner at my home and I’m carrying a heavy load on my head,” he said.
The singer added that there were several matters he needed to resolve but was not prepared to discuss them publicly.
“I cannot come out to discuss my family affairs and there are many things I need to sort out,” he explained.

Beyond his family responsibilities, Ruz said he also needed time to look after his personal well-being before returning to the public eye.
He explained that he did not feel ready to face public scrutiny while going through a difficult period. Rather than expose himself to criticism, he chose to take a step back and focus on getting himself into a better place.
“I also needed to take care of myself and not come to the public while I’m mentally unstable,” Ruz said.
He added that he was concerned about how people might judge him if he appeared publicly while he was not feeling his best.
“I didn’t want people to see me and criticize me because I’m not in a good state of mind. I first had to work on myself and be okay before coming out to you,” he said.
Ruz did not disclose the specific family challenges he was dealing with, leaving the details of his private circumstances undisclosed.
His comments offer an explanation for his absence from the music scene, although he did not provide a specific timeline for his break or outline detailed plans for his next career move.
The singer’s experience also highlights the pressures artists can face away from the stage, particularly when professional ambitions exist alongside significant family responsibilities.
