A 19-year-old special-hire driver has been arrested over the alleged stabbing death of a fellow driver in Central A, Nateete, in Kampala’s Lubaga Division.
The suspect, identified by police as Muwonge Sinan, is accused of attacking 70-year-old Thomas Batiibwe Twase on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m.
According to preliminary police information, Sinan allegedly found Twase inside a vehicle in the Central A area before attacking him with a knife and fleeing the scene.
Residents reportedly pursued the suspect and apprehended him before handing him over to police.
Twase was rushed to Rubaga Hospital following the attack, but he was later pronounced dead.
Police said the two men operated as special-hire drivers from the same area of Central A, Nateete.
Twase was a resident of Bulaga Zone B, Sumbwe Parish, Wakiso Sub-county, in Wakiso District.
Police investigate circumstances
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest and said investigations were underway.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Kawala said.
Police said investigators are working to establish the motive and events that preceded the alleged stabbing.
No further details about the circumstances of the confrontation or the suspected motive have been released.
Sinan remains in police custody as investigations continue. The allegation against him has not been tested in court.
