More than a decade after organizing Jamaican dancehall star DeMarco’s concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Dr. Ronnie Mich Egwang is revisiting the event that he says became one of the most financially painful experiences of his career.
Speaking during a recent discussion, Mich Egwang reflected on the 2012 concert, which was disrupted by heavy rainfall and ultimately failed to meet expectations commercially. Looking back, he shared an unusual story about an individual who allegedly offered to prevent the rain in exchange for a small payment—a proposal he says he rejected because it conflicted with his Christian beliefs.
According to Mich Egwang, that decision came at a significant financial cost, but he says he has never regretted standing by his faith.
An Offer He Says He Could Not Accept
Recalling the events leading up to the concert, Mich Egwang said someone approached him through events host MC Kats and another DJ with an unexpected request.
According to him, the individual asked for UGX 2,000 to be paid to an alleged rainmaker who claimed they could prevent rainfall during the outdoor event.
Mich Egwang said he immediately turned down the proposal.
“You know that story about witchcraft is something I experienced, and you were there too. We did a show together—the 2012 DeMarco concert at Cricket Oval. Somebody came through you (MC Kats) and another DJ asking me to pay UGX 2,000, but I refused. It started raining at around 2 p.m. and didn’t stop until 8 p.m.”
His account reflects his personal recollection of the events and his explanation for why he declined the request. He did not present evidence linking the rainfall to the alleged offer.
Faith Over Fear
Mich Egwang explained that his decision was rooted entirely in his Christian beliefs.
He said accepting the proposal would have gone against his personal convictions, regardless of the potential outcome for the event.
“The moment you take money out of your pocket and give it to a rainmaker, you’ve bonded your entire family. From a spiritual perspective, I live by Christian values. I believe that if God wanted me to have a sold-out crowd that day, it would have happened whether it rained or not.”
For Mich Egwang, remaining faithful to those beliefs was more important than attempting to influence circumstances through practices he does not accept.
His comments describe his personal religious perspective and beliefs.
A Costly Setback
While he says he has no regrets about refusing the request, Mich Egwang acknowledged that the aftermath of the concert was financially devastating.
According to him, the rain severely affected attendance and left him with losses totaling approximately UGX 1.5 billion.
He added that it took him five years to clear the debts that followed.
“I lost UGX 1.5 billion and spent five years paying it back. I think that’s why that wasn’t my space—it wasn’t my portion. It was a very difficult period, but one thing I’ll always be proud to tell my children is that I never compromised my Christian values.”
The figures and circumstances described above are based on Mich Egwang’s account during the interview.

MC Kats Shares His Perspective
MC Kats, who was part of the discussion, also addressed the topic of faith and success in the entertainment industry.
He said he has never relied on witchcraft or sacrifices in pursuit of his career and emphasized that his Christian beliefs remain central to his life.
“I have never sold my soul in the music sector. I can’t. My Christianity is still there. Of course, I’m not perfect—I’m a sinner. But when it comes to witchcraft and sacrifice, I’d rather die broke than reach that level.”
His remarks echoed Mich Egwang’s emphasis on remaining true to personal convictions despite professional challenges.
Why the Story Is Resonating
Mich Egwang’s reflections touch on more than a failed concert.
They highlight the difficult choices some people say they face when balancing deeply held religious beliefs with the pressures of the entertainment business. His story also illustrates the financial risks involved in organizing large outdoor events, where weather alone can dramatically affect attendance and revenue.
At the same time, both Mich Egwang and MC Kats used the discussion to reinforce their personal views on faith, making it clear that their comments reflect their own beliefs and experiences.
Behind the headline about a billion-shilling loss is a story of resilience. Mich Egwang says it took five years to recover financially, yet he believes the experience strengthened rather than weakened his convictions. For him, the lasting lesson isn’t the money he says he lost, but the decision to remain faithful to principles he considers more valuable than financial success.
Years after the rain-soaked DeMarco concert, Dr. Ronnie Mich Egwang says the financial scars have healed, but the experience continues to shape how he views faith, success, and the choices people make under pressure.
