Grace Nakimera has revealed three of her favorite Ugandan songs, and her choices offer a strong nod to the artists and music that helped shape Uganda’s sound.
The singer’s shortlist features songs from Juliana Kanyomozi, Maddox Sematimba and Judith Babirye, three established names whose music has remained familiar to Ugandan audiences across different generations.
For Nakimera, Maddox’s “Omukwano” makes the cut. The song is among the tracks she highlighted while discussing the Ugandan music she enjoys, adding another classic title to her personal favorites.
She also picked Juliana Kanyomozi’s “Kibaluma,” a song that rocked Ugandan airwaves in 2005 and formed part of the music that helped cement Kanyomozi’s standing as one of the country’s prominent female artists.
The third selection comes from the gospel side of Uganda’s music scene.
Nakimera chose Judith Babirye’s “Omusayi Gwa Yesu,” a gospel song released in 2005 as part of Babirye’s album Yesu Beera Nange.
The three choices create an interesting mix of secular and gospel music, reflecting the breadth of Uganda’s musical catalogue while highlighting Nakimera’s appreciation for songs from an earlier generation.
Nakimera is also preparing for her own major night on September 11, 2026, when she is scheduled to hold her concert at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Her decision to spotlight songs from artists widely regarded as part of Uganda’s musical legacy comes at a time when she is also preparing to revisit parts of her own musical history.
With Juliana Kanyomozi’s “Kibaluma,” Maddox’s “Omukwano” and Judith Babirye’s “Omusayi Gwa Yesu” making her personal top three, Nakimera’s playlist is ultimately a celebration of songs that have stood the test of time.
