Ugandan social media influencer Jelton has sparked a heated online conversation after revealing that owning a car is one of the standards she considers when deciding whether to date a man.
Speaking during a TikTok Live session with Barista Timo, Jelton said she would not date a man who does not own a car, although she insisted it is not necessarily the first requirement she considers.
“I cannot date a man without a car. It’s not the first requirement, but what do you mean you don’t have a car?” Jelton said.
Her blunt take quickly became a talking point online, with social media users divided over whether her expectations are reasonable or overly focused on material possessions.
Some netizens questioned why material things continue to feature so prominently in how some young Ugandans determine who is suitable for a relationship.
