Ugandan dancehall singer Mickie Wine, born Michael Mukwaya, has revealed that his love for domestic animals once landed him in trouble with a landlord, leading to an unexpected eviction from a rental property.
The singer shared the experience while answering a question about whether he had ever been forced out of a rented house because of unpaid rent.
Mickie clarified that although he had experienced eviction, it had nothing to do with rent arrears. Instead, the dispute reportedly involved a dog he kept at a property owned by businessman Hajji Bakaluba.
According to the singer, he was paying UGX 200,000 in monthly rent at the time. He explained that the dog helped provide security for the tenants by alerting them to thieves attempting to access their fenced compound.
However, the arrangement eventually caused tension after the dog reportedly bit one of their neighbours.
Mickie said the neighbour had previously beaten the animal, prompting him to warn the man’s sister that the dog could eventually bite him if the situation was not addressed.
The singer claimed that his warning was ignored until the incident occurred. After being bitten, the neighbour reportedly complained to the landlord, who subsequently received concerns from other tenants.
Mickie said Hajji Bakaluba eventually asked him to vacate the property.

“I’ve ever been evicted from a rental but not due to rent arrears issues. It was for other reasons. You know I love animals so much. So at the rental we had a dog that I looked after and it would provide security for us and it would arrest thieves in our fence,” he explained.
He added that the neighbour had beaten the dog before the incident and that he had already warned the family about the possibility of an attack.
“One time he got bitten by the dog and reported me to the landlord. Hajji Bakaluba then asked me to leave his rentals,” Mickie said.
Fortunately, the eviction did not leave the singer without somewhere to stay. He revealed that he had already started building his own home in Magere before the rental dispute occurred.
Rather than look for another rental, Mickie moved into the partially completed house, occupying the finished section while construction continued elsewhere on the property.
“However, what helped me is that by the time, I had started constructing my own home in Magere and moved in though it was still under construction. I would stay in the completed department as I finished the rest of the house. And life moved on. That’s the house you all see,” he added.
The story offers a glimpse into an earlier chapter of Mickie Wine’s life, showing how an ordinary rental arrangement reportedly ended because of a dispute involving a pet rather than unpaid bills.
For the singer, having his own home under construction proved fortunate, allowing him to move on from the rental dispute without being left stranded.
