Ugandan kadongo kamu singer Mathias Walukagga is brimming with confidence as he sets his eyes on Parliament in 2026.

The veteran entertainer, now turned politician, has officially secured the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag for the Busiro East parliamentary seat — beating out incumbent Medard Sseggona, who has represented the constituency for the last 15 years.

Speaking after receiving the nod, Walukagga declared that victory is already within reach.

“One foot is already in Parliament because when you get the NUP card, you’ve secured 50% already, and you’d only need 1% to make 51% to swear in,” Walukagga told supporters.

Why He Believes the Seat Is His

Walukagga didn’t shy away from giving credit to divine intervention for his rise.

“The people I was contesting with are all highly educated and intellectual, but God decided to pick me,” he confidently stated.

With NUP currently enjoying sweeping support in central Uganda, Walukagga believes his flagging alone gives him a powerful head start.

Sseggona Refuses to Back Down

But it won’t be a walkover. The incumbent, Hon. Medard Sseggona, isn’t leaving the race quietly.

After losing the party endorsement, the seasoned legislator announced he will run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

That sets the stage for a high-stakes political showdown in Busiro East, pitting Sseggona’s 15-year parliamentary experience against Walukagga’s fresh momentum and star power.

From Music to Politics

Walukagga’s transition from celebrated singer to rising politician mirrors a growing trend in Uganda, where entertainers such as Bobi Wine have successfully used their influence to gain political ground.

The singer, famous for his socially conscious music, has long used his art to spotlight community struggles — making his political leap feel like a natural extension of his advocacy.

What’s Next for Busiro East?

As the 2026 elections draw closer, Busiro East voters now face a heated choice:

  • Stick with Sseggona’s proven experience
  • Or rally behind Walukagga’s bold new energy under NUP

Either way, the constituency is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched battlegrounds of the upcoming elections.

Final Word

With his swearing-in suit already picked out, Mathias Walukagga is treating the NUP flag as half the victory secured. But with Medard Sseggona refusing to step aside, Busiro East could witness one of Uganda’s most dramatic political battles in 2026.

👀 Do you think Walukagga can really unseat Sseggona after 15 years in Parliament?
