Makerere University Guild President Ssentamu Churchill James has shared how a painful breakup early in his life became a driving force behind his success. Speaking on Galaxy TV’s Star Connect, Churchill recounted how his former partner ended their relationship because she thought he lacked ambition and financial stability.
“She broke up with me. But I wasn’t poor, I was working. I didn’t have as much money to take care of her. She thought I didn’t have ambitions or a future ahead of me,” Churchill said, adding that he still wishes her well.
From Football Dreams to Academic Leadership
Churchill explained that his focus on football instead of immediate wealth creation was misunderstood. His ex-partner felt he wasn’t prioritizing their future, which led to the split.
“She told me she couldn’t handle being with a guy who was playing football all the time. I hope she is doing well anyway,” he reflected.
Instead of letting the rejection demoralize him, Churchill used it as motivation to work harder and build a future that would prove his capabilities.
