Ugandan rapper Big Tril is changing his tune when it comes to the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF). After months of skepticism, the “Parte After Parte” hitmaker now says he’s ready to officially join the federation — a move he believes could help strengthen the voice of local artists.
Speaking candidly about his shift in perspective, Big Tril admitted that he initially misunderstood the organization’s purpose but has since come to appreciate its mission.
“Initially I didn’t understand the UNMF, but I’m starting to understand the initiative,” he explained. “Hopefully I’ll go there soon.”
From Skeptic to Supporter
When the UNMF first launched, the rapper — real name Rowland Kaiza — was among several Ugandan artists who chose to remain distant, citing uncertainty about its leadership and direction.
However, after observing its recent achievements and reforms, Big Tril says he’s realized the federation’s real potential to transform Uganda’s music industry.
“At first, I thought it was just another group with unclear goals,” he shared. “But now, I see the work they’re doing and how they’re fighting for musicians’ rights. That’s something I want to be part of.”
His openness marks a growing wave of artists who are beginning to align with the federation’s advocacy for better industry structures and fairer copyright policies.

The bill is now at the committee stage in Parliament, awaiting its second and third readings before being passed into law.

In response, Eddy Kenzo, the federation’s president, stepped forward to clarify the situation.
“The President’s album was not a UNMF project,” Kenzo stated. “It was a personal initiative by a few individuals who admire him, not an official federation undertaking.”
This clarification seems to have reassured some artists, including Big Tril, who are now warming up to the idea of joining.
Why Big Tril’s Endorsement Matters
Big Tril’s reconsideration carries weight in Uganda’s entertainment scene. Known for his sharp lyricism and global breakthrough hit “Parte After Parte,” the rapper is one of Uganda’s most influential Hip Hop voices.
His support could inspire other skeptical artists — especially those in rap and urban genres — to see the UNMF as a unifying platform rather than a political organization.
“The music industry needs structure and unity,” he said in a recent interview. “If the federation can deliver that, then we all need to be part of it.”
UNMF’s Growing Influence
Since its inception, the UNMF has worked on improving artist welfare, lobbying for royalties, and encouraging professional management across the industry. It has also partnered with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and other cultural bodies to standardize policies that protect artists’ income streams.
The federation’s leadership includes some of Uganda’s biggest names — among them Sheebah Karungi, King Saha, and Cindy Sanyu — who’ve all been vocal about building a united front for the creative industry.
With Big Tril now expressing interest, the movement for a more structured, artist-driven industry seems to be gaining even more traction.

The Ugandan music industry has long struggled with fragmentation — from rival associations to personal feuds that often overshadow collective progress.
If Big Tril officially joins the UNMF, it could symbolize a turning point — one where artists across genres come together to push for lasting reforms that benefit everyone.

“I believe in growth, collaboration, and structure,” Big Tril said. “If that’s what the federation stands for, then count me in.”
